WALKING FOR ENGLAND 2012 IN HALL GREEN AND SELLY OAK
'Walking For England 2012' will be a challenging series of walking events around the constituencies of Hall Green and Selly Oak and hopefully the rest of Birmingham during Olympic year.
Any individual or group can subscribe to the project and as yet we are still to set a target for the challenge. I'll be approaching all of our contacts, supporters and Friends as well as spreading the word around the constituencies to get as many involved as possible.
WALKING IS GREAT FOR BODY AND MIND
The ChallengesOne suggestion so far is to set a personal challenge to walk 10.000 steps a day, accompanied by a 'Ramblers' step counter, and hopefully some fellow walkers, and also a Ranger challenge to get 100 new walkers for the year at each of the six Ranger Hubs. (The other sites don't know this yet and rather than burden them with more targets I'll attempt to introduce the idea gently over the next couple of months. Might not work but I'll give it a go.)
So 10,000 steps per day for 365 days equals 3,650,000 steps, ah that's madness or is it? I will be consulting with our friends at the Ramblers for advice and encouragement.
2012 Walking Programme
In the meantime, and for certain, we have a programme of themed monthly walks for 2012 organised between Cannon Hill Park and the Shire Country Park and we hope to get plenty of new walkers throughout the year.

Walking programmes are a great way to bring people together and there's always a friendly atmosphere. You don't have to be an expert walker, in fact we are looking to encourage more people, who perhaps don't do a great deal of walking at the moment. Look out for further details and please spread the word.
